Faculty Bio
Dr. Shailender Bhatia is a medical oncologist who specializes in the care of patients with advanced skin cancers. He is the Director of the Melanoma and Renal Cancer Team at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and a professor and physician at UW Medicine.
He is committed to developing clinical trials that focus on improving outcomes for patients with skin cancers, especially melanoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, and other non-melanoma skin cancers. His research interests also include intra-tumoral immunotherapy, a form of treatment where cancer medications are injected directly into a tumor to improve treatment responses while reducing systemic toxicity.
Dr. Shailender Bhatia has been involved with the Binaytara Foundation for many years, leading conferences and sharing his knowledge. Most recently, he received the BTF Distinguished Faculty Award, which recognizes individuals who have demonstrated long-standing excellence in teaching and improving access to education for health care providers.

Founded in 2007, Binaytara Foundation (BTF) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to improving access to cancer care. Through educational and innovative approaches, BTF aims to eliminate socioeconomic barriers in the field of oncology and hematology.
Binaytara Foundation organizes a significant number of hematology and oncology conferences on a regional, national, and international basis. Binaytara Foundation is most noted for constructing a 200-bed state-of-the-art cancer hospital in Janakpur, Nepal. BTF also assisted in building the first bone marrow transplant center in Kathmandu, Nepal, and palliative care initiatives in South Asia.
